You Don’t Need More Time—You Need Better Priorities
Apr 14, 2025
If you’ve ever caught yourself saying, “I just need more time” or “There aren't enough hours in the day,” then this post is for you.
Because I’ve got some tough love coming your way (with a whole lotta compassion, of course)… and here it is:
You don’t need more time.
You need better priorities.
I know, I know—that might sting a little. But I want to have a real conversation about this, because after coaching hundreds of people in fitness, nutrition, and business over the last 10 years, there’s one thing that comes up over and over and over again:
“I just don’t have the time.”
But here’s the truth: time isn’t the issue. It’s how we use it.
Let’s Bust the Big Lie About Time
We tell ourselves this story:
If I just had more time, I'd finally be caught up. I’d be organized, ahead on content, totally crushing my goals, and also relaxing with a face mask on.
But let me ask you this:
If I handed you five extra hours today, would that actually happen?
Or would you just fill those five hours with the same stuff you're already doing—scrolling, over-delivering, people-pleasing, putting yourself last?
I say this with love, but for most of us, if we don’t have systems, boundaries, and clarity around how we want to use our time… we’re just going to waste the extra hours anyway.
Where’s Your Time Leaking?
Time leaks are sneaky little things. They look like:
- “Just five minutes” on Instagram (that turns into 30)
- Saying yes to things you don’t actually want to do
- Doing everything yourself instead of delegating
- Over-delivering for clients who aren’t paying enough
- Letting your day get run by other people’s priorities
And listen, I’m not here to shame you. I’m here to help you see it—because when you see it, you can change it.
You don’t need to find time.
You need to make it.
“I Don’t Have Time” Really Means “It’s Not a Priority”
Oof. I know. This one’s a gut punch.
But the reality is, when we say we don’t have time to work out or post content or launch that thing we’ve been dreaming about, what we’re really saying is:
It’s not a priority for me right now.
And that’s okay! There are seasons where your priorities shift. Right now, I’m navigating some major health challenges with my parents. My workouts have taken a backseat because advocating for my dad and dealing with insurance is the priority. That’s real life.
But I’m honest with myself about that. I’m not saying, “I don’t have time to work out.” I’m saying, “That’s not my priority today.”
So here are a few questions I want you to sit with:
- What is actually important to me right now?
- Where am I acting like a passive participant in my own schedule?
- What am I saying is a priority… but not treating like one?
Want More Time? Let’s Audit What You Already Have
If you’re ready to stop feeling like you’re drowning in your to-do list, I’ve got a little challenge for you.
For the next 3 days, do a time audit:
- Track what you do every hour.
- Write down how much time you spent on each task.
- Ask: What could’ve been done faster? What could be delegated? What can just be deleted altogether?
I promise you’ll find at least one hour a day you can reclaim. That’s seven hours a week.
Seven hours! What could you do with that?
Launch a new offer?
Record a podcast?
Go for a walk without your phone?
Actually finish your coffee while it’s still hot?
The time is there. You just have to take it back.
If You Don’t Protect Your Time, Someone Else Will Waste It For You
Let me say that again for the people in the back:
If you don’t protect your time, someone else will waste it for you.
This looks like:
- Coffee chats that go nowhere
- Clients who expect you to be available 24/7
- Being the default parent when you didn’t sign up for it
- Saying yes out of guilt instead of alignment
Start saying no—not just to the stuff you don’t want to do, but to the stuff that doesn’t align with the business and life you’re trying to build.
So I’ll ask you this:
What’s one thing you can say no to this week to get some time back?
The Real Question Isn’t “How Do I Find More Time?”
The question is:
What am I willing to change so I can use my time better?
Maybe you won’t find an extra hour a day. That’s okay.
Maybe it’s just 15 minutes. That’s still a start.
If that’s where you’re at, then start there. Because even 15 intentional minutes a day can change the game over time.
And if this resonated with you, come hang out inside the This Mother Means Business community. This is what we do. We build businesses that give us more time—not less.
Let’s use it like it matters—because it does.
